The existing fixtures will be replaced with brighter, energy-efficient Light-Emitting Diode (LED) fixtures throughout the city, and changing the fixtures will lead to improved visibility for both drivers and pedestrians, according to officials.

The first phase of the project aims at replacing a total of 529 highway safety lights located in half of all intersections in Santa Clarita, according to officials.

Project maintenance will take place evenings between 8:30 p.m. and 3:30 a.m. to limit traffic impacts, and is expected to be completed by Nov. 14, according to officials.

Officials are assuring residents that the individual projects to change the light fixtures will likely not affect their morning commutes.

“I do not anticipate any delays or closures because none have been planned,” said Kevin Tonoian, the special districts manager for the City. “All the work will be done in the evening and will be done at smaller intersections.”

The project will begin at the easternmost portion of Soledad Canyon Road and proceed west into Canyon Country, according to the press release.

The second phase will then focus on replacing fixtures in the Saugus and North Valencia areas before work is completed in Valencia and Newhall, according to officials.
