The Santa Clarita City Council is set to discuss the purchase of the Roger Dunn Golf Shop on Main Street during the Jan. 23 regular meeting, according to the agenda.

After a lengthy search for a suitable location for the public television studio, this property (Roger Dunn Golf Shop) recently became available for purchase,” reads the agenda. “The intended use of a television studio is in alignment with the Downtown Newhall Specific Plan and the property includes onsite parking.”

The city’s report shows a plan of using this facility for television production, using funds from the Public, Educational, and Government (PEG) balance.

The property price stands at $1.4 million, plus an additional cost of $25,000 for related costs such as title, escrow, and taxes, coming out to a total of $1.425 million.

The facility aligns with the Downtown Newhall Specific Plan, and includes on-site parking as well. The property sits at a quarter acre of land and the building itself stands at 4,598 square feet.

Once the acquisition is complete, there is potential to have the golf shop lease the property from the City of Santa Clarita (City) and continue to operate, as it will take the City some time for planning and bidding on work the building needs to suit the City’s intended purpose, according to the agenda.

The potential lease terms with the golf shop are still in negotiation, said officials.

The process of preparing the building up to city standards and the bidding process itself are both time-consuming and intricate, making it a possibility for the shop to lease the property from the city while continuing to operate until details of the matter are complete.
