The extra clearance helps the city of Santa Clarita mitigate flood concerns when the city receives seasonal heavy rains at winter time.
“It’s something we do every year,” said Carrie Lujan, city of Santa Clarita spokeswoman, “to keep the gutters clear of debris and to prevent flooding.”
Every fall and winter, after trash pickup days, street sweeping increases between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Beginning Monday, October 23, the City of Santa Clarita will clean its streets.

Santa Clarita residents are being asked to remove vehicles from the street, as well as lawn and tree trimmings, trash and debris and portable basketball hoops.
Santa Clarita officials also ask residents not to pile leaves on yards.
Instead, they should be placed in a green waste container, which can be supplied by the trash service provider, according to city officials.
Street sweeping will return to the monthly schedule on January 19, 2018.
