In 2012 the Tarrant family lost their 17-year-old son, Cory Tarrant, in a fatal dirt bike crash, and have used the incident to raise money for and awareness about organ donation.

Once again the Tarrant family is participating in the annual Donate Life Run/Walk Family Festival.
The event is “a non-competitive 5K/1K run/walk to educate and inspire the community about organ and tissue donation while benefiting the OneLegacy Foundation,” according to event officials.
The walk takes on a personal meaning for the Tarrant family after their son elected to be an organ donor before his death.
Cory Tarrant was honored in the 2015 Rose Parade with a portrait on the Donate Life Rose Parade float for his donation and the work of his family after his death to raise awareness on the importance of organ donation.
Nearly 18 people die each day waiting for a lifesaving organ to be donated, according to organizers.
The Donate Life Run looks to help reduce that number by inspiring others to become organ donors and research new advanced ways to transplant organs and tissues.

Cory was set to graduate from high school six months early. It would have been a year early, but once he got his driver’s license, taking himself to the motocross track was too tempting, said Kathy Tarrant, Cory’s mother, in a previous interview with KHTS. He planned to get his professional license once he graduated.
“He was entertaining to watch,” she continued. “He was a good rider with grace and skill.” While Cory may always be remembered for his love of riding, he had many passions.
He enjoyed photography, and whether the photo was of flowers or various scenes in nature, Kathy remembers using his photos for the front of the family’s Christmas cards every year.
“I really do believe public awareness can be the answer to saving lives through organ donation,” she added. “There is no place better to start than our own community.”
You can help this cause by donating to team Cory Forever Young. The event is scheduled to take place Saturday April 29, at the CSU Fullerton campus. For more information, click here.
