The Point-In-Time Homeless Count, organized by the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA), is expected to start Tuesday, Jan. 24 at 8 p.m. at both The Centre, located at 20880 Centre Pointe Parkway; and Real Life Church, located 23841 Newhall Ranch Road.

LAHSA has been organizing the Point-In-Time homeless count across the LA County since 2005, spanning across 85 cities and the unincorporated areas of LA County, excluding the cities of Glendale, Long Beach and Pasadena.

The 2016 count totalled approximately 47,000 homeless individuals and families living in the Los Angeles County.

The results of the count are employed by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to determine the amount of funds that should be designated to local homeless programs.

Those who wish to volunteer must be at least 18 years old and commit about three hours to conduct the count. Volunteers will be paired into teams and drive to designated areas in Santa Clarita to carry out visual counts of homeless individuals.

Volunteer counters and drivers will receive training and materials on the day of the count.
