“We would like to see our numbers grow because if we have more people, we can donate more to make a bigger impact,” said founding member Krista Wayner.

The organization is a chapter of the 100 Who Care Alliance, a volunteer organization seeing to make an impact in their communities.

Related groups include 100 Men Who Care, 100 People Who Care and 100 Kids Who Care.

There are currently more than 550 chapters throughout the world, according to Santa Clarita chapter officials.

The Santa Clarita Valley chapter was founded in 2017 by Wayner after noticing that no group like it existed in the community.  Although the group is specifically targeted at women, they welcome people of all sexes and ages.

The group comes together to socialize, network and most importantly, according to Wayner, to learn about local nonprofit organizations and ways to help them.  Members come together four times a year to vote on local nonprofits to decide which one needs help the most, to maximize the group’s return on their actions.

“I like to help, but I don’t have time to volunteer,” said Wayner.

At the first meeting of 2018, the Santa Clarita Coalition’s Adopt A Vet program was chosen.

Members must donate at least $400 per year to a nonprofit chosen by the group, in order to ensure more than lip service to community outreach.

All donations are tax-deductible.

Although the organization asks that members be present for the meetings, it is not necessary to attend, but it is necessary to commit to the yearly donation amount.

“Our ultimate goal is to exceed 100 people in order to help with the immediate needs of our local nonprofits,” said Wayner.

The next 100 Women Who Care meeting will be on Wednesday, May 2 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the New Moon Restaurant on 28281 Newhall Ranch Road in Valencia.
