If it’s not just sitting around talking to other veterans, it would be using the computers, watching TV, grabbing a snack or cup of coffee and more.

If a Santa Clarita veteran’s biography is not on the “Warrior’s Wall” at the veteran center, they are encouraged to drop in, take a look and arrange to have their story placed there.

The center recently sponsored the Patriot’s Luncheon put on by the Santa Clarita Chamber of Commerce, and officials noted they were proud to participate in the honoring of Dennis Witzel, a Vietnam veteran and chairman of The Board of the Collaborative.

There’s never a dull moment at the Santa Clarita Veteran Center, according to officials.

The daily infusion of goods for the food pantry continues to grow and enable center officials to provide for more and more veterans and their families. With a new freezer, officials can now extend the life of perishable items.

The nonprofit Help the Children also donates a large percentage of the food. Other donors include Vons and many faith-based entities.

Every first, second and third Saturday of each month from 9 a.m to 1 p.m., the Santa Clarita Veteran Center serves veterans in need of help with benefits. Officials noted the response is so “overwhelming,” they are forced to turn away too many veterans, and encouraged any veterans service organization who can assist to contact them.

The Center is planning a “Movie Night” fundraiser for the fall, with details still being finalized.

The Santa Clarita Veteran Center holds a community-wide meeting every third Friday of each month.

This month’s meeting is set for September 21 at 11:30 a.m. at the College of the Canyons University Center, Room 222.

All attendees are treated to lunch, which is sponsored each month by a different member.

Officials encourage local veterans to visit them and “break bread” in hopes they will be inspired to join the effort to improve the lives of veterans and their families.

Veterans center officials are working on a new 2018 reference guide, which will be distributed to the Santa Clarita Valley.
