The center features new wood flooring, freshly painted walls and ceiling, refrigeration, a new toilet and storage cabinets for veterans and their families to enjoy.

The center also offers free Wi-Fi that can be used by veterans and families during their visits to the center.

Some of the services that will be offered to veterans through the center include employment opportunities, counseling and therapy, education, transportation, legal and medical services, benefit assistance, and additional choices through the “one stop shopping” reference desk.

Veterans that choose to visit the new center will have the opportunity to interact with other veterans, pick up books from the library, participate in games, complete puzzles with other veterans and sign up to participate in support groups.

The center will offer other additions upon completion in late February, such as the “Warriors Wall,” which will be a compilation of the stories authored by Bill Reynolds about local veteran and military history of the Santa Clarita Valley.

Every Thursday from noon to 3:30 p.m. there will be a food pantry available for veterans and their families that are in need of what donations have been received for that week.

Residents are being asked to donate to assist veteran families, and donations can be addressed to the Veteran Services Collaborative at the Lyons Avenue address.

The Collaborative will continue meeting at College of the Canyons on the third Friday of every month, at 11:30 a.m. in Room 301 of the University Center, and new members are always invited to join, participate and provide help.

The Veteran Center is located at 23222 Lyons Avenue. Visit the Veteran Collaborative website for more information.
