In a tradition of more than a decade, Saugus High School students and teachers will portray female role models in honor of women’s history month, to give credit to the women who advanced civilization through their work.

The performance of famous women at the 11th annual Women in History program will show several women who’ve made historical contributions.
Saugus students and teachers will perform in an effort to continue to honor the legacy that women have created which inspires many today, according to Hart District officials.
Women’s History Month had its origins as a national celebration in 1981 when Congress passed a public law which authorized and requested the president to proclaim the week beginning March 7, 1982 as “Women’s History Week,” according to the Library of Congress.

Throughout the next five years, Congress continued to pass joint resolutions designating a week in March as “Women’s History Week.” In 1987, after being petitioned by the National Women’s History Project, Congress passed another public law, which designated the month of March 1987 as “Women’s History Month,” according to the research library.
Between 1988 and 1994, Congress passed additional resolutions requesting and authorizing the President to proclaim March as Women’s History Month.
Since 1995, Presidents Clinton, Bush and Obama have followed the tradition and named the month each year.
The performance will be held on April 10 at 9 a.m. at Saugus High School located at 21900 Centurion Way in Santa Clarita.
