Saugus And West Ranch Square Off In Battle Of 2-0 Teams

Saugus (2-0, 6-1) gets ready to take on West Ranch (7-0, 2-0) tonight in a game that will greatly impact who will be contending with Valencia for first place in the Foothill League this year.

With Valencia, Saugus and West Ranch all tied at 2-0 in the Foothill League standings, this week’s game between Saugus and West Ranch means that one of these teams’ undefeated start is over.

After finishing last year tied for last place with a record of 1-4, West Ranch has started this year 7-0, and in a position to establish themselves as one of the top two teams in the Foothill League with a huge win tonight. The Wildcats have defeated the Centurions just once in their program history (21-20 in 2010), and the last two games these teams have played have been settled by a combined 5 points. Will it be another night of history for the Wildcats?

West Ranch’s trio of star Seniors, quarterback Weston Eget, running back Ryan Camacho and wide receiver Jovan Camacho, all lead the Foothill League in yardage at their respective positions. In fact, Ryan Camacho, a leading Player of the Year candidate, has dwarfed all others at the running back position with 745 more yards and 12 more touchdowns than the second-best players.

This high-powered offense will get their toughest test yet against a Centurions defense that is allowing just 10 points per game to opponents since the season began.

In addition to holding their opponents to such low scores, Saugus’ Senior defensive-lineman, Carson Smith, leads the Foothill League in sacks with 7.5 while averaging 1.3 per game.

In a classic showdown of “Something’s Gotta Give”, whichever team wins this matchup will have the inside track on a first or second place finish in the Foothill League.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 from Paul A. Priesz Stadium at Valencia High School.
