A tradition among the six high schools in the Santa Clarita Valley, the Burrito Bowl is a 4-minute burrito eating contest between each high school’s football team to raise money for the winning school’s football, band, dance and cheer programs.

Whichever team eats the most burritos in the time allowed wins the grand prize.

All students and family members are encouraged to join in the fun and cheer on their respective school.

Furthermore, raffle tickets are being sold for $5 at the event spectators can purchase for their football, band, dance and cheer programs.

Each school gets to keep 100 percent of the profits made from the tickets purchased, and last year’s raffle sales estimated $30,000.

Last year’s Burrito Bowl accumulated approximately 4,000 spectators and this year is anticipated to be no different, said Amy Daniels, WiSH Foundation Executive Director.

Defending the crown is Canyon High School, whose linemen ate their small-person sized Mexican entree in less than 2 minutes, giving the Cowboys the right to draw the lineup for this year’s eating out of their helmets.

Previous winners include Valencia (2015) and Saugus (2014).
