SCV Buzz – Family Fun Activities In Santa Clarita – August 5, 2015

Slowly but surely the summer is coming to an end. So take advantage of the sunny days you have left to spend time doing something fun with your kids.

Here are my top 5 picks for Family Fun in Santa Clarita this weekend:

Dive-In Movie “Fire and Rescue”

SCV Buzz - August 5There is no way around it, this summer is HOT! So take advantage of the cool Dive-In Movie Event and “chill out.”

The Santa Clarita Aquatics Center is presenting the movie Planes: Fire & Rescue on Friday, August 7th, at 7pm. You can bring the whole family to enjoy the movie on the big screen while you float in the pool or lounge on the deck. Tickets are $10 per person, and remember to bring your own inflatable to lounge appropriately. Visit their website for details.

That sounds pretty “cool” to me.

Westfield Farmers Market

If you are looking for a simple but fun activity with your kids, take them to the Westfield Farmers Market.

It’s every Thursday from 4 to 8 pm on Town Center Drive near Pottery Barn and will offer farm fresh foods from local vendors, plus entertainment and children’s activities.

An added bit of kid fun: have your kids pick out the weirdest or most colorful vegetable they can find and challenge yourselves to find a meal to make out of it at home.

A fun game that has an added bonus; sneaking veggies into your child’s diet.

YMCA Family Picnic

SCV Buzz - August 5Nothing gives you family fun like an old fashioned family picnic, so join up with the YMCA for one of the best parties in town.

Saturday, August 8th, meet up at the Santa Clarita Valley Family YMCA between 11 am and 2 pm for the free Family Picnic. There will be food, fun, and all sorts of old time games like sack races and watermelon eating contests. Everyone is invited, and you can call Ryan Fowler for details at 253-3593.

*No previous sack racing experience required.

Lego Challenge

Got a Lego-lover in your family? Take them to the Lego Challenge at the Valencia Library for some fun with other Lego-lovers.

This Saturday, August 8th from 10:30 to noon, bring your kids ages 5 and up to the Valencia Library to build their little hearts out. It’s free fun in a great environment.

I too, am a Lego-lover. Unless I step on those little buggers on the floor in bare feet. Then I’m a Lego-curser.

Concert in the Park – Airplay

SCV Buzz - August 5Love dancing to live music at a free event under the beautiful night sky? I figured as much. Head over to Central Park for this week’s “Concert in the Park” featuring the band Airplay.

Saturday, August 8th, at 7pm bring your chairs, blankets and dancing ability to Central Park for this fun cover band that features music from the 90’s to now. There are food trucks there, but you can also bring your own dinner and enjoy this amazing concert series.

Their music is upbeat and totally danceable, so expect to jump to your feet repeatedly.
