SCV Buzz - 4th of July

SCV Buzz – Family Fun Activities In Santa Clarita – July 1, 2015

The 4th of July is the perfect time to have a blast with your family, and this weekend there are a ton of great family fun events in Santa Clarita so you can celebrate in style.

Here are my top 5 picks for family fun in Santa Clarita this weekend:

Independence Day 5K and 10K

14359196498_81d8870f0d_zStart off your day of play with a little fun energy burn for your kids at the Independence Day Classic Kids K. It’s a non-competitive walk for kids of all ages starting at 7:45 AM and finishing with each child getting a medal. You can participate in the 5 and 10 K too if you feel inspired, make sure you sign up first on their website.

Think of how much less guilty you will feel about eating that 4th of July feast later in the day. (I’ll have that second burger, thanks!)

Santa Clarita 4th of July Parade

SCV Buzz - 4th of JulyHeading to a 4th of July parade is practically REQUIRED by law. Ok, not really, but kids love a good parade, and face it, so do you.

9 am is the starting time for the Old Town Newhall Independence Day Parade. The procession runs north along Main Street from 5th to Lyons, turns west on Lyons, and then north onto Orchard Village road and you can get all the specifics here.

They don’t give penalties if you don’t attend. But they should.

Fourth of July Fireworks in Santa Clarita

SCV Buzz - 4th of JulyThere’s only ONE thing that can get me to put down the OITNB and keep my kids awake past their bedtime: FIREWORKS!!!!

Good thing there is a spectacular display happening here in Santa Clarita, the 4th of July Fireworks show at the Westfield Town Center. They start at 9:15pm and will be complimented by a live soundtrack from us here at KHTS. You can find more details on this and all of the 4th of July events on the city website.

Totally worth the late night. And, thanks to the magic of streaming video, you can watch your show on Sunday.

Pancake Breakfast SCV Rotary Club

SCV Buzz - 4th of JulyIf you want to start off your 4th of July celebrating with a fun group breakfast including the cool cousin of breakfast food-the pancake-then join up for a feast with the SCV Rotary Club.

The event is being held on Saturday, July 4th from 7 to 9:30 am at the parking lot of the Roger Dunn Golf Shop and tickets are $4.

Fill those kids up for the celebrations! Because you need to make sure they are in it for the long haul.

4th of July Party Games

SCV Buzz - 4th of JulyHaving a BBQ at a home party for the 4th? Don’t leave the kids to their own devices (you know how badly THAT can go), give them some patriotic party games to keep them having fun without getting into crazytown.

Some ideas are: Capture the Flag, Tag using Red, White and Blue tokens that you capture when you tag someone, sidewalk flag chalk drawing, and even a circle game where each people have to name something red, white or blue.

Use your creativity or the magic of the internet to create a fun afternoon for all of the party guests!
