SCV Buzz – Family Fun Activities In Santa Clarita – March 11, 2015

Have you perfected your Irish accent yet? Prepped the green food coloring for your libations? Well you still have the weekend to get in the festive spirit for St. Patty’s Day, why not take your kids out for some family fun to get celebration-ready?

Here are my top 5 picks for Family Fun in Santa Clarita this weekend:

St. Francis Dam Tour

SCV Buzz - St. Patrick's DayWho wants to go on a dam tour? YOU DO! The St Francis Dam Tour that is (language people, language!).

Saturday, March 14th at 11:00am, Frank Rock, known as “The Dam Man,” is leading the lecture and hike of the ruins of the St. Francis Dam. The lecture is first and free at Heritage Junction Historic Park, then the tour begins at noon and costs $35. To reserve tickets, call (661) 254-1275.

Kids ages 6 and up are welcome, so take those dam…loving kids to this dam event!

Grand Opening of Stevenson Ranch and Castaic Libraries

Two new local libraries are opening this weekend and both are celebrating with the community.

The Stevenson Ranch library is replacing the former Express library and holding their opening ceremony at 11 a.m. on March 14. The Castaic Library is holding their grand opening on March 14th at 10 am. So you can visit them both!

Don’t worry, if you aren’t feeling THAT ambitious on a Saturday morning, they will be open regular hours as well. That will be fun too. Just not as festive.

Martin: Duty Calls

SCV Buzz - St. Patrick's DayYour older kids may have studied Martin Luther King Jr in school, but there is a great chance to help them fully understand this amazing man and the still relevant issues he addressed  in the upcoming performance of “Martin: Duty Calls” at the Valencia High School.

The touring production of this moving play about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his wife Coretta’s trials and tribulations being the face of a movement, take place on Saturday, March 14th at 3 and 8pm. You can visit their website for details and tickets.

Take your teens and use the show as a springboard for a very important conversation about racism. You will be glad you did.
