“We don’t refuse service to anyone,” said CEO Philip Solomon. “Regardless of what you can pay or can’t pay, we still provide all the healthcare that you need.”

Center staff determine charges based on the individual’s income level and family size using federal poverty level standards, and patients are not required to pay the entire fee upfront.

The minimum fee to receive healthcare at any of the Samuel Dixon Family Health Center locations is $36, according to Solomon.

Center doctors are general practitioners who provide immunizations and vaccines, physicals, screening and diagnostic tests, well baby care, preventative programs, family planning, women’s health services, prenatal services, treatment of illness and injury and more.

“If you’re sick, you have a fever, you have an injury, you have some pain or discomfort… We do the whole array,” Solomon said.

By hosting outreach and enrollment activities at health fairs and events as well as center locations, staff members also help uninsured patients sign up for health insurance through Covered California under the Affordable Care Act.

“In addition to us serving the uninsured, I have staff that reach out to the uninsured to try to qualify them into one of several programs so that they have healthcare coverage,” Solomon said. “We do that throughout Santa Clarita.”

Samuel Dixon Family Health Center officials are able to provide their services through grants and community fundraising support, such as their annual Rubber Ducky Festival, where Santa Clarita residents can donate $5 per duck to compete in a rubber duck race for prizes.

Centers are located in Canyon Country, Newhall and Val Verde, and two outreach locations exist at College of the Canyons and California Institute of the Arts.
