Starting Oct. 15, the anonymous donor will match every donation dollar-for-dollar up to $50,000, giving the organization a chance to double the amount raised with every gift, according to officials.

“This challenge gift comes at a wonderful time as we come closer to completing the construction of the new SCV Senior Center by early March 2019,” said the organization in a statement. “Time is essential in acquiring the remaining funds.”

The SCV Senior Center has acquired support from Los Angeles County, the City of Santa Clarita and the community, but still needs to raise $1 million to complete the new center, according to officials.

“This matching gift opportunity will help us come closer to that goal,” said officials.

The brand new, 30,000-square-foot, two-story center is set to be centrally located at Golden Valley Road and Newhall Ranch Road on 2.5 acres of newly-developed land.

The SCV Senior Center’s new facility is reported to be three times the size of the current center and is designed to contain six classrooms — five more than the existing center, according to officials.

The additional classrooms are set to provide a variety of opportunities for senior growth that include everything from adult education to learning new hobbies to participating in entertaining activities.

“We ask you to join us in this effort to continue to be of service to our community by providing this much-needed new Senior Center that will not only benefit the seniors of today, but the seniors of tomorrow and years to come,” said officials.

The new Santa Clarita Senior Center is expected to open its doors in the spring of 2019, according to officials.
