“In anticipation of cooler times, SCV Water has you covered with free monthly gardening classes that will help you prepare for fall by helping you pick the right plants for your landscape and teach you how to ward off weeds and pests,” SCV Water officials said in a press release.

The “Top 30 Plants for the SCV” class is set to start on Thursday, Sept. 6, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

The “Controlling Weeds, Pests and Diseases” class will teach about common landscape health complications and how to deal with them. The class is set to start on Saturday, Sept. 8 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Although officials noted that the instructor may change without notice, John Windsor, a certified arborist and a California-certified nurseryman is expected to teach both classes in September.

Windsor has been a horticultural advisor in the Santa Clarita Valley for 21 years and has taught gardening and landscape classes at the Golden Oak Adult School and the Santa Clarita Department of Parks and Recreation.

All classes are set to take place at SCV Water, located at 27234 Bouquet Canyon Road in Santa Clarita.
