Observant employees at a store located on the 19000 block of Golden Valley Road in Canyon Country reported the theft, according to Sheriff’s officials.

“Working hand-in-hand with one of our local businesses on Sunday evening, we were able to apprehend two Lancaster men, one of whom had a no-bail felony warrant,” said Shirley Miller, spokesperson.

One suspect was detained at the location by the store’s loss prevention officer, while the second suspect managed to get away on foot, she said.

Phillip Codd, 30, from Lancaster was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station for theft and warrants for his arrest, and is being held without bail.

The second suspect, Walter Croft, 30, from Lancaster was booked as well for theft and warrants for prior convictions, and he is being held on a $55K bail.

Reportedly, two men entered the store, took video games and left without paying for them.

“When deputies arrived they took the captured suspect into custody and began to track down the other,” Miller added.

During the investigation, one responding deputy spotted one the suspects sitting at a nearby restaurant based on a description given by witnesses at the scene.

Upon conducting an identification check on both men, the deputies discovered they had multiple warrants for prior crimes, including a no-bail felony warrant, said Sheriff’s officials.

“A responding deputy located the other suspect at a nearby restaurant,” Miller said. “Not only were the suspects in possession of the stolen video games, but it was also discovered that both men had warrants out for their arrests.”

The two men were taken into custody Sunday evening by LASD from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s station for shoplifting and narcotics warrants.
