Sierra Vista took the opportunity to display their new school motto, “Together We S.U.C.C.E.E.D.,” which stands for Support, Understand, Care, Celebrate, Energize, Explore and Deliver.
The motto was created by the school’s Associated Student Body, according to Carolyn Hoffman, principal for Sierra Vista Junior High.
The student body was not the only group preparing for the day ahead of time. The faculty of Sierra Vista met with officials from Million Little, a nonprofit children’s organization, in order to learn techniques to ensure the mental and emotional health of the students, Hoffman said.
The students also participated in an “ice-breaking” activity during brunch. Students were given name tags, encouraged to meet new people and given popsicles at the end of the event, according to Hoffman.
