A fire near Lake Hughes, north of Santa Clarita, is causing some residents to report smoke in the Santa Clarita Valley.

“The fire is at two to three acres,” said Supervising Fire Dispatcher Cheryl Sims. “But they stopped the forward progress.”
The blaze was reported at 12:48 and shortly before 2 p.m. firefighters had stopped the fire from spreading.
No homes were threated by the fire, said Sims.
A helicopter from the Los Angeles County Fire Department was assisting first responders in their firefighting efforts, and athough firefighters from the Angeles National Forest and Kern County were made available to fight the fire, they were ultimately not needed to handle the incident.
A southwest-blowing wind caused smoke from the fire to spread throughout the Santa Clarita Valley, lowering the air quality in the area.

Those with heart or respiratory issues, older adults and children should stay indoors as much as possible.
Homeowners should run their air conditioner if they have one, and should close the “fresh air intake” to prevent hazardous materials from passing the filter into the house.
Those inside houses should keep all windows closed, as well as turn off any full-house fans and fireplaces.
