The southbound on-ramp of the I-5 in Castaic is expected to be shut down Friday night as the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is scheduled to close one of two on-ramps.
Caltrans has announced the southbound on-ramp at Sedona Way will be closed until approximately mid-August while workers lay new pavement for the on-ramp.
Drivers affected by the closure are advised to use a second on-ramp to southbound I-5 at Hasley Canyon Road, located 0.2 mile south of the closed ramp at Sedona Way.
This temporary ramp closure is part of SB 1 a $171 million construction project aimed to replace concrete lanes on nearly 16 miles of I-5.
The on-ramp at Hasley Canyon Road is scheduled to remain open during construction though it will close intermittently on some nights.
The Hasley Canyon Road on-ramp is expected to reopen by 6 a.m. or earlier, Mondays through Fridays, however this is subject to change, according to officials.
Detour signs will be posted to warn drivers when both on-ramps are closed, directing drivers south of The Old Road to the next southbound I-5 on-ramp.
The I-5 Roadway Rehabilitation Project is removing and replacing all of the concrete in the two right lanes and repairing damaged sections of the two far left lanes on I-5 from one-half mile south of CA-14 to 1.7 miles north of Lake Hughes Road.
The public can anticipate more pavement projects in the future as a result of SB 1, California’s new transportation funding plan with an expected completion date Fall 2019.
