The volume of traffic and amount of personnel make the early morning a very congested situation at Golden Valley, according to Hart district officials. Summer school will operate on Monday, July 25, however, first period will not meet. Attendance for first period will not be considered as an absence.  Summer school will begin with 2nd period at 9:45 a.m. Drop off time should be no sooner than 9 am for students.

Outdoor activities, such as athletics, band and performing arts camps at Golden Valley High School, have been cancelled for Monday due to concerns about the air quality and smoke. There is a slight change in schedule, which is detailed in a statement from the Hart district.

Regularly scheduled scheduled athletic activities at other schools are expected to “proceed with caution.”

Classes will continue despite the #SandFire, which has burned more than 22,000 acres of the east side of the Santa Clarita Valley.

There was only 10 percent containment reported as of 4 p.m. Sunday.

The campus is currently being used as one of several staging grounds for emergency and public safety officials who are assisting in the effort.

There were more than 1,600 personnel on scene, from Sand Canyon to Acton to assist in the effort.

The fire started Friday around 2:20 p.m. No cause has been reported, according to officials.

Hart district officials released the following statement in regard to concern about campus activities:

The Sand Fire has had an impact on several Hart district facilities. Golden Valley High School is being used as the Command Post for multiple agencies fighting this devastating fire, and the Red Cross is using Hart High School as an evacuation center. Because of this, a few summer schedules have been impacted.

Upon arriving at Golden Valley, all staff, students and parents will be directed to the drop off and parking areas.  Parking will be at a premium, so carpooling is strongly encouraged.  Our main lot is off limits and you will not be allowed entrance.
All athletics, band and performing arts camps at Golden Valley have been cancelled for Monday. Until we get specific guidance from AQMD, all outdoor activities at ALL of our campuses throughout Santa Clarita will be proceeding with caution. We encourage you to contact your advisor, directors and coaches for more specific information.

  1. It is a mistake to have summer school, especially for ESY for special education. Too many possibilities for a more dangerous conditions .
