The Van Nuys Airport recently welcomed some highly awaited visitors. In company with the airport, the Los Angeles County Fire Department highlighted the aircraft resources that are available for the 2017 fire season.

This is the 24th year the Fire Department has leased a pair of CL-415 SuperScoopers from Canada.

The arrival of two Canadian CL-415 SuperScoopers and one Erickson Air-Crane Helitanker is serving as a reminder to Los Angeles County residents to be safe and take precautions during this fire season.

These aircrafts will be essential in combating fires, but the Los Angeles County Fire Department says these planes aren’t the only resources.

“Over 90 percent of wildlife incidents are created by humans,” Fire Chief Daryl L. Osby says. “We ask that there are no open flames in those areas… Be careful if you’re using power tools, be careful if you’re smoking.”

The solution to fires lies within the residents’ hands, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

“It’s important to clear the brush around your home, it’s important if you live in a high fire area to listen to those around you when they say there’s a need to evacuate,” said L.A. County Fifth District Supervisor Kathryn Barger.

For more information, take a look at the L.A. County Fire Department website’s “Ready! Set! Go! Preparation” brochure. The brochure can also be found at any local fire station.
