“You guys have got some special places in California, no question — like the beach,” said John Sampson of Ruby Springs Lodge. “But (Montana) is unique compared to what you’d be used to from southern California… Everybody comes for an adventure.”Ruby Springs Lodge Montana - Top Montana Fly Fishing Resorts

Situated on a private stretch of the Ruby River, guests can not only take advantage of exceptional fly fishing opportunities, but can also soak up the tranquil scenery by going hiking or horseback riding, or simply sitting outside their private cabin enjoying the view.

“You can go to Mexico and sit on the beach; you can put a picture of that up in your office or on your mantle over the fireplace,” Sampson said. “But you put a picture of somebody holding a brown or a rainbow trout with the mountains in the background and the beautiful river in front of them, it’s really unique… People see that picture on the mantle and they’ll say, ‘Wow, where did you go?’”

Visitors don’t have to be experienced fly fishers to stay at Ruby Springs Lodge Montana, as the lodge is host to many first-timers from corporate groups, father-son pairs and even married couples.

“We make it so easy — don’t feel as though you’ll be uncomfortable,” Sampson assured. “Come on out. It’s one guide for two people, and we do everything. It includes your rods, your reels, your waders, your instruction, your private cabin with beautiful amenities and some of the nicest food in the state of Montana.”

While the lodge is set to temporarily close in mid-January, fishing season officially starts back up again in April and runs through November, according to Sampson.

“Spring is a lovely time to come,” he said. “(There’s) very few people out on the water, (and) the fish are biting eagerly.”
