Alex Richard Valdez, 29, was arrested on Friday on suspicion of connection to the case, according to Detective Scott Matlock of the county’s Homicide Bureau.
Brittney Sue Humphrey, 22, and Joshua Robertson, 27, are accused of shooting and killing Harvill, Humphrey’s step-sister, and kidnapping her three children, ages 5, 3 and 2 in August of 2016.
Harvill’s body was found on a secluded road in Lebec with a gunshot wound to the head on Aug. 14, 2016. After her body was found, the investigation led police to Humphrey and Robertson who they believed Harvill was living with at the time.
The search for Humphrey and Robertson led investigators to find Harvill’s children in Albuquerque, New Mexico and the suspects in Colorado a day later.
“(The arrest of Valdez) stems from a shooting that occurred in Fresno prior to the victim’s murder,” said Matlock.
Valdez’s case was presented to the District Attorney’s office on Monday where no murder charges were filed.
Valdez is currently being held at the Men’s Central Jail in Los Angeles
Humphrey is being held at Century Regional Detention Facility for $3,000,000 bail and is due back in court in April. Robertson is being held at Twin Towers Correctional Facility for $3,080,000.
