UBN is one of the leading podcasting companies in the nation, recording many hit podcasts at their Hollywood/Gower studios. KHTS FM 98.1 and AM 1220 is Santa Clarita’s only commercial radio station.

“We’re excited to launch this partnership,” said UBN CEO Tony Sweet, a Santa Clarita resident. “I approached KHTS because they had created such a strong local brand in my hometown. I recognized by offering our slew of podcasters the opportunity to also have their shows broadcast on traditional radio, the power of the combination would be a terrific way to distinguish their podcast from the thousands of others available online.”

Both companies will remain independent, with no cross-ownership in either company. The new relationship is a partnership designed to complement each other.

While KHTS has been posting their own live on-air talk shows as audio podcasts for many years, the UBN partnership will allow the station to expand even further.

“This takes our media offerings to the next level,” KHTS Co-Owner Carl Goldman said. “UBN is leading the way in podcasting. Their podcast recording line-up includes Dr. Drew and the National Lampoon Comedy Radio.”

UBN has dozens of podcasts covering a wide range of subjects, including leading Spanish-language podcasts, covering everything from financial independence to relationships.

Podcasting has become a major new form of entertainment. Apple jumped on the podcasting bandwagon early on, offering downloads via iTunes. Last week, Google announced they were getting into the podcasting arena, launching a new Google podcasting app that will be positioned on all android phones.

“Our new partnership offers podcasters the opportunity to have our hosts reach that many more listeners,” Sweet said. “UBN’s footprint covers the entire nation. We also have a large international reach. KHTS dominates a regional target, focused on the third largest city in Los Angeles County, with over 300,000 upscale residents.”

The podcasting partnership will extend the reach of KHTS Radio’s on-air shows, rather than replace them.

“We believe podcasting will never replace traditional radio,” Goldman said. “It’s becoming another funnel, another entertainment source. Podcasting is what we call narrowcasting at its finest. There is plenty of room for both mediums. The two go hand in hand and are terrific complements to each other. We anticipate our partnership with UBN to also be an incredible complement.”
