“We have a 20-year-old male who was reporting to be swerving and hitting items with his vehicle before crashing into that light pole,” said Lt. Leo Bauer of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, adding the crash is still under investigation by the station’s traffic division.

Deputies arrested Elias Figueroa, 20, on charges of misdemeanor DUI and hit and run, in addition to vehicle code violations.

The law states that it is against the law to drive with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.01 percent or higher if you are under 21 years of age. The BAC is measured by a test given to you by a police officer. Under this law, on your first offense, your driving privilege will be suspended for one year if:

  • your BAC is .01% or higher, or
  • you refuse to take the preliminary alcohol screening (PAS) test, or
  • you fail to complete the PAS test (Preliminary Alcohol Screening).

The driver was the only person transported to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital from the crash scene. He was treated for minor injuries, and was then taken into custody, according to Bauer.

The downed signal on Soledad Canyon Road and Camp Plenty Road Intersection remains out of commission, with no update on its replacement.

Bauer indicated that the two vehicles pictured may not have been the only ones damaged, and investigators are still looking into the total damage the driver caused.

The suspect is set to appear in court Oct. 20.

  1. Stupid punk! I think the punishment should be more severe for crap like this! Seems like a slap on the wrist all things considered! Someone could have been hurt or killed because of his dumb behavior! Wonder how many innocent peoples’ vehicles were damaged and folks scared to death for no reason?! Hope him and/or his parents have to pay for everything out of their pockets including the traffic light! Need to learn a serious lesson!

  2. Selfish jacka–
He’s lucky he didn’t kill anyone.
