Desterea Bell Reese, 44, was fatally struck by a car on the I-5 north at Valencia Boulevard just before midnight on Nov. 7, said Ed Winter, assistant chief of investigations at the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office.
Reese was reportedly driving a 2000 Mercedes Benz on the I-5 south when she veered to the left across a line of traffic cones, striking a traffic board that had been set up for construction, according to California Highway Patrol officials.
She then exited her vehicle, crossed the center median and entered the northbound lanes ahead of traffic, when she was struck by a passing car.
Los Angeles County Fire Department officials who responded to the call attempted to perform lifesaving measures, but Reese succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
Coroner’s officials ruled her death a suicide after conducting an autopsy, Winter said.
CHP reports indicate that Reese was a Bakersfield resident.
