Rickett had lung cancer at the time of his death, and had recently decided to stop treatment, according to a social media post by family friend Jerry Citarella.
Citarella continued that Rickett “passed away peacefully with his family … while they were all holding him.”
He added, “Dave was a good guy who loved his family, had a big heart, always shared a smile and could beat most any of you in a round of golf. He shared with me years ago that his goal was to retire young from law and make a run at the Seniors/Masters tour. He didn’t get that chance but I know he was happy to live with that dream. His love for his family, his business, his friends and that amazingly straight drive of his will be remembered by many.”
A member of the Santa Clarita Valley Bar Association and the Santa Clarita Chamber of Commerce, Rickett was also part of the Los Angeles County Bar Association and the Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles, according to his profile on the Reape-Rickett Law Firm website.
Rickett earned his Associate of Arts degree in math and science from College of the Canyons, his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from University of California, Los Angeles and his Bachelor of Science in Law and Juris Doctorate degrees from Glendale College of Law. He began practicing law in 1995.
Citarella noted he expects to release information on a memorial or other ceremony to celebrate Rickett’s life in the next few weeks.
DAVID was so good to talk to; had great ideas, cared about people. He will be missed!
Mr. Rickett’s memorial service will be held on Monday October 10, 2016 4pm at Grace Baptist Church. A reception at the Rickett home will immediately follow the service.
