Valencia (4-0) Secures Spot For First, West Ranch (3-1) Outside Looking In

Valencia (6-3, 4-0) secured a spot for first place after defeating Saugus (6-3, 2-2) 41-14 while Hart (5-4, 2-2) knocked off undefeated West Ranch (8-1, 3-1) 31-26 on Friday night.

The Foothill League regular season is entering its last week, and Valencia has locked themselves in to another title win with a commanding victory over Saugus. West Ranch lost in the final minutes of an intense game against Hart that spoiled what could have been a perfect regular season.

Valencia’s win and West Ranch’s loss sets the stage for a win-or-go-home game for the Foothill League title this year. Valencia is set to play West Ranch in the final week of the season, and the Vikings are in control of their own destiny.

West Ranch’s tough loss to Hart means the Wildcats must win next week to force a tie with Valencia. The two teams would be co-champions with a record of 4-1 if West Ranch is able to defeat Valencia.

If West Ranch can defeat Valencia next Friday, it would be the school’s best finish in a Foothill League season ever. It would also be the first time they’ve won more than three games in a season at the varsity level.

As for Valencia, the Vikings had a more challenging preseason and opened the Foothill regular season with a record of 2-3. Unsurprisingly, Valencia finds themselves at the top of the Foothill League again trying to secure what would be the school’s tenth Foothill League title in a row.

Valencia and West Ranch play home games at Valencia High School so both teams will be looking to clinch the title (or co-title) in front of their home crowds.

One team is trying to bring home a decade of dominance, and the other is vying for its first Foothill League title ever. All eyes will be on these two teams next week to see who will be the 2018-2019 Foothill League champions.
