Valencia To Host Reigning National Champions In Opening Round Of Playoffs

The CIF Southern Section football playoff brackets were released yesterday with some rather interesting results.

Division 1

Mater Dei (8-2) vs Valencia (7-3)

What a welcome to Division 1 for the Vikings. They’ll host the reigning national champions and current No. 2 team in the country.

The Monarchs have two losses this season–one a forfeit Week 1 due to an ineligible player, the other to the current No. 1 team in the country in St. John Bosco. They beat the No. 4 team IMG Academy earlier in the year.

They’ve done this all after graduating the top high school quarterback and wideout last season.

A Valencia win would be a monumental upset.

Division 3

Moorpark (7-3) vs Hart (6-4)

This should be an excellent matchup and perhaps the best playoff game of the week.

Moorpark is battle tested with a signature non-league win over Notre Dame and a grueling, highly competitive Camino League.

Division 4

Bishop Diego (4-6) vs Saugus (7-3)

Bishop Diego is a surprising at-large team in Division 4 after having lost much of their state championship team from 2017 to graduation and in a down year.

Division 6

West Ranch (8-2) vs Silverado (5-5)

Silverado was beat up in their non-league schedule (1-5 and a blowout loss to Valencia), but went undefeated in the Desert Sky League.

Nevertheless, good luck stopping Ryan Camacho.
