The post on the app Snapchat, published Wednesday, showed a young boy brandishing a gun with the quote, “Don’t come to school tomorrow (expletive).”

“The weapon was found to be an airsoft gun,” said Lt. Velinda Johnson. “The suspect was briefly detained and released in the custody of his parents.”

Vasquez High School has not been affected by the threat, and the school remains “secure and open,” said Shilo Villasenor, office clerk.

Initial reports only cited one suspect, but a statement from district officials states there may be more than one.

“The students in question will not be on campus pending further review being conducted by School District officials; law enforcement was able to contact both students at their respective homes,” said Ty Devoe, Vasquez Principal in a letter to parents.

In conjunction with law enforcement, we have ensured there is no threat from the students involved in the social media post; our campus is secure and all students are safe to come to school, said Devoe

“We will continue to work closely with local law enforcement as they investigate the matter. We will also increase administrative presence on campus to ensure student safety and orderly operation,” continued Devoe. “However, in compliance with student privacy laws and due process protections, we
cannot publicly discuss the nature of the misconduct or any disciplinary steps the District will take against the students.”

Student safety and their well-being remain the District’s first priority, added Devoe.

The minors in question have not been charged by Sheriff’s Stations officials as of Thursday morning.

  1. He/they should be made accountable in some way! Minor or not. I am an Acton resident and live here for its serenity.
Children going to school should not live in fear of what might happen in school that day! Or while taking a walk, going to the store etc. Enough is enough!!!!!!!
