The Academy of the Canyons, in association with Project Linus, will be hosting “Make a Blanket Day” Oct. 7 in a community effort to knit blankets to distribute to families who currently live in shelters.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars, Santa Clarita chapter is set to be the recipient of a dedicated POW and MIA Chair later this month.

A POW and MIA Missing Man Chair signifies the more than 83,000 prisoners of war, and those missing in action, as well as the impact on millions of their surviving relatives. The chair will remain perpetually unoccupied in honor of those heroes who remain missing.

“This chair dedication will serve as a constant reminder of those who did not return,” said Robert Patrick, a member of the Boozefighters Motor Cycle Club. “Our freedom we enjoy was not free.”

A formal ceremony will take place August 26 at 2 p.m. at the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Canyon Country, followed by a party at the Chapter 101 Boozefighters Motorcycle Club and viewing of the the Mayweather v. McGregor fight.

Actor Robert Patrick (“Die Hard 2,” “Terminator 2”) is a member of the Boozefighters Chapter 101, who is in charge of the chairs and the plaques presented at the event.

Also attending the ceremony August 26 is keynote speaker “New York Myke” from San Diego Harley Davidson, Vietnam veteran; Patrick  “Rolling Thunder Patch” J. Hughes; and Oliver Shoku, owner of the Glendale Harley Davidson.

The dedication in the VFW bar is open to the public. The clubhouse dedication is separate and for invited guest only.

The Boozefighters are a nonprofit organization that raises money to help veterans, children and the poor, and Patrick has also been a supporter of the Academy of United State Veterans. They recently participated in a cross country motorcycle trip to Washington DC called Rolling Thunder, where he spoke and honored over 100,000 veterans this past Memorial Day.
