Set to take place Sept. 27 from 5-8 p.m. at the Child & Family Center, the event was created to help the community, support people in recovery, teach critical prevention and offer treatment and recovery services, all while celebrating Recovery Month.

“The Voices for Recovery event is a collaboration between The Way Out Recovery SCV the Child & Family Center celebrating Recovery Month by bringing together a recovering persons panel and professionals in the community to raise awareness and give resources to end addiction and give help and hope to those suffering with mental illness and substance use disorders,” said Bob Sharits, the program director of the Way Out Recovery SCV.

“We will highlight inspiring stories that help thousands of people from all walks of life find the path to hope, health and wellness,” said Charity Wabuke, the Substance Use Disorder (SUD) program manager of Child & Family Center in a press release. “In addition, our message is that prevention works, treatment is effective, and people can and do recover.”

The gathering is meant to raise awareness on mental health issues and substance use disorders, to celebrate those who are in their long journey to recovery and to acknowledge the work of treatment, recovery support services and treatment.

“It is critical that people experiencing mental and substance use disorders receive the support they need,” said Wabuke. “The reality is that behavioral health is essential to health, prevention works, treatment is effective, and people recover.”
