Both men and women strapped on a pair of high heels to, literally, walk a mile in her shoes around the Tejon Outlets. This symbolized taking steps toward stopping domestic violence and sexual assault.

“I love the fact men are standing up for domestic violence here today… This just heightens the awareness in the community,” said Linda Davies, executive director of the DVC of SCV. “It’s your mother, sister, daughter — these things are happening to women that you are close to.”

One in 33 men are abused, added Davies, one in four women are abused.

Approximately 50 men showed up to the event, “all in great spirits… but left with some blisters,” said Davies, “the man who won ran in heels so that was pretty amazing.”

The Domestic Violence Center of Santa Clarita Valley and Bakersfield Alliance Against Family Violence and Sexual Assault partnered with the Tejon Outlets for the first time to put on this event to raise awareness about domestic violence and raise funds for services for those in need.

The DVC of SCV was able to raise over $2000 at this event.

The DVC of SCV encourages victims of domestic violence to call their 24-hour help line at 661-259-4357 or go to their website.
