“This storm is still moving in the LA area,” said Stuart Seto, an official from the National Weather Services. “The rains will last basically until later tonight, but we are expecting more on Sunday. “
As stormy weather affects the area, residents are advised that sandbags are available to pick up at their local fire station in preparation for any flooding.
Rains are expected to continue through Friday night until Saturday morning, but the storm that will move through the area between Saturday night and Sunday morning will be the heaviest, according to Seto.
“The other storm moving in this weekend will be the event’s heaviest as far as precipitation,” he said. “Around one to three inches of precipitation are expected.”
A flash flood watch was issued by the National Weather Service for the Santa Clarita Valley Friday afternoon to last until 6 p.m. that evening from anticipated moderate rains and possible thunderstorms, said Seto.
A flash flood warning was also issued for the Los Angeles County until 2 p.m. in the sand, sage and calgrove burn areas. Seto also advises caution over possible mudslides in these areas.
The heavy rains on Sunday are even expected to continue continue through the first half of the week.
“There is a 40 percent chance on Monday, Tuesday morning there is a 30 percent chance and Wednesday through Friday should be clearing up,” said Seto. “Any rains should continue showery in nature.”
