Darla Hagenson, 53, of Santa Clarita was struck while crossing the road to catch her dog, which darted into traffic on Sierra Highway, said Brian Elias, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office.

Hagenson’s death was ruled an accidental death stemming from “traumatic injuries” she sustained in the collision on July 25.

Sheriff’s Station officials received the call at 8:45 p.m. about a vehicle vs. pedestrian collision.

The driver reported the victim was walking her dog “near the curb line” on the southbound lanes on Sierra Highway when her dog ran into the road, officials said. Officials did not report finding a dog at the scene of the collision.
