Zonta Club officials invite Santa Clarita residents to join the first Zonta Club Annual Awards Event honoring the scholarship and community grant award winners for 2015.

The awards that will be presented are three community grants, one Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarship, one Young Women in Public Affairs Scholarship  and some Virginia Wrage Memorial Grants, said Pat Willett of the Zonta Club Newsletter Committee.

Along with the other awards, the Zontian of the Year will also be presented.

“Thousands of dollars will be given away in grants for projects that are in mind for women,” said Willett. “These awards are to encourage young women to go into public service works.”

The event is on Wednesday, May 13 at 6 p.m. at the Embassy Suites Valencia located at 28508 Westinghouse Place Valencia, CA 91355.

At 6 p.m., attendees will meet the honorees for appetizers and no host bar, then at 6:45 p.m. the program begins.

The featured speaker is Staci Alziebler-Perkins, representative of the UN Commission on the Status of Women, who will be speaking about Women’s Equality & Beijing+20: What happens now?

Residents are also welcome to join the monthly meeting held the second Wednesday of the month at 6:30 p.m., Embassy Suites, 28508 Westinghouse Place, Santa Clarita, CA 91355.
