Sensory-Friendly Santa Coming To Canyon Country

Bright flashing lights, enthusiastic children, and large crowds may sound joyful, but for a child with autism, the experience is nothing but chaotic.

The City of Santa Clarita is set to host a “Milk and Cookies with Santa” event where children with special needs will have the opportunity to tell Santa what they want for Christmas in a sensory-friendly atmosphere.

“Children and their families are welcome to come and enjoy holiday treats while listening to Santa tell stories of the North Pole in a sensory friendly environment,” said City officials.

The set up will include dim lights, reduced sound levels and sensory friendly activities for children with special needs.

“Children will also have the opportunity to share their holiday wishes with Santa, while getting their photo taken with Mr. Claus himself,” said officials.

All are welcomed at the free event, but it is requested that each group attending does not exceed five people.

The event is scheduled to take place at the Canyon Country Community Center located at 18792 Flying Tiger Dr. on Monday, Dec. 17 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

To reserve a spot, attendees can register in person at the community center or call (661) 290-2266.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
