Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich presented the 500th shelter pet for adoption at the Board of Supervisors meeting on April 26, 2005, the 10th Anniversary of the Board’s Pet Adoption Program. Each week at the Board meeting, Supervisor Antonovich showcases a pet in need of a home from one of the six County Animal Shelters. Since its inception, this successful program has found homes for 429 dogs, 67 cats, 2 rabbits and a guinea pig, with more than 250 county employees adopting pets through this weekly pet presentation.
Los Angeles County Animal Care and Control Director Marcia Mayeda presented Supervisor Antonovich with a special collage of photographs of pets who found loving homes thanks to his efforts. “We are so grateful to Supervisor Antonovich for his dedication and commitment to finding loving new homes for our shelter pets,” said Mayeda.
The program milestone coincides with National Be Kind to Animals Week, which encourages kindness and humane treatment to all animals.
