Ruby Jane Smith is no stranger to the bluegrass music scene. When she was just 2 years old, Ruby Jane received her very first violin lesson. Ten years later, this 12-year-old from Columbus, Mississippi is blazing her own bluegrass trail with accomplishments that musicians twice her age only dream of. On August 4, 2007, Ruby Jane Smith was a guest on Along the Trail with John Tabak – Santa Clarita’s local equestrian radio program that highlights Santa Clarita Valley’s equine community featuring riders, trainers and western entertainers, many of who are regulars at the annual Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival – held every spring. Along the Trail airs Saturday mornings at 9am on AM-1220 KHTS.

A national fiddle champion, Ruby Jane Smith recently performed with country music duo ‘Big and Rich’ on the CMA Music Festival-which aired on ABC in July. She is a regular at bluegrass festivals across the country and has graced the stage of the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. Ruby Jane Smith recently became the recipient of the Daniel Pearl Memorial Violin. This prestigious award honors the memory of Daniel Pearl. The American reporter who lost his life while on assignment in Pakistan was also an accomplished violinist. Receiving the award is a highlight for Ruby Jane.
