Young boy makes big getaway, but doesn’t get very far.
[view:node_ad=5]A 12-year old who should have been in school saw an opportunity to hit the road this morning when he spotted a car idling in a driveway on Claudette Street in Canyon Country.
The car’s owner had left the car running as she was bringing things from the car into her home and had made several trips back and forth when she came out of the garage to find her silver Honda Accord headed toward Ruether Avenue. Behind the wheel was a young black boy that she did not recognize.
Lt. Mark Hershey of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station said that a broadcast of the car’s description prompted deputies patrolling the area to spot the car on Solemint Road near the Diamond Park apartment complex, where the driver and a juvenile passenger were seen inside the car.
Upon seeing the deputies, the driver got out of the car and jumped a fence. The passenger was taken into custody without incident. Neighbors told deputies that the driver was seen getting on a Santa Clarita Transit bus, which deputies were able to locate, arresting the fugitive juvenile.
Both boys were taken to Santa Clarita Valley sheriff’s station for booking. Hershey said they would most likely be released to their parents.
