This afternoon, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies from the Santa Clarita station accepted over 150 guns from the community during their “Gifts For Guns” program.
The event provides $100 or $200 gift cards to major retail or grocery stores in exchange for the voluntary safe surrender of a firearm.

With a mantra of “no questions asked,” deputies watched as members of the public lined up at the drive through event to surrender their weapons.
The number of guns received was bigger than expected, according to Sheriff’s officials, and the event is not over yet.
On Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. deputies will again set up the drop off location in the parking lot of the Do it Center on Valencia Blvd. near Bouquet Canyon Rd.
The guns collected come from a variety of sources. Often the service is utilized by law abiding citizens who want to get rid of the firearms in a safe way. While anyone can drop off their gun to the Sheriff’s department to be destroyed, this event offers a good incentive to make sure that unused guns don’t fall into the wrong hands. Many firearms used in criminal activity are stolen from homes.
Aside from rifles and standard home protection firearms, some interesting submissions also came in. A Thompson sub machine gun was collected, as well as an assault rifle, Teck-9, multiple miniature handguns and even a rifle affixed with a bayonet.
