College of the Canyons expands Mentry Hall
On Thursday, at 10:30 a.m., College of the Canyons celebrated the groundbreaking ceremony for the expansion of Mentry Hall. With the additional 32,040 square feet, the college plans to create sixteen classrooms, twelve offices, and two conference rooms.
With the additional classrooms, the college plans to house various courses including media and fine art classes, as well as a program for architecture and drafting technology.
“The expansion will benefit the community because it is going to enable us to grow our programs,” stated John McElwain, Public Information Officer for the college. “We will be able to add more classes, better spaces, and will be able to deliver the product people expect.”
Designed by Klassen Construction Management, the expansion is projected to be finished by fall 2010.
“This has been in our long-range plans for a number of years and it’s finally coming into fruition,” said McElwain.
Funded by money from Measure “M,” a general obligation bond passed in November 2006, the project will cost $10.6 million.
Currently, Mentry Hall houses the following programs:
- Media Entertainment Arts
- Animation
- Architectural Drafting and Technology
- Interior Design
- Visual Art and Art History
- Photography
- Graphic and Multimedia Design
- Art Gallery
