2-liter Bottle Explosions Cause Scare In Valencia

Sheriff's Department investigation finds little danger.

[view:node_ad=5]In what may have been a self-guided chemistry experiment,
someone mixed a concoction of chemicals and aluminum foil in a 2-liter bottle on
the COC campus Thursday evening.

After combining the ingredients and sealing the cap on the bottle,
the resulting chemical reaction causes the bottle to explode.

After two of the bottles were set off, Sheriff's deputies
from the Santa Clarita station were called to the scene on Rockwell
Canyon Rd., where they immediately sealed off the
area and called in an air unit.

Sheriff's Arson detectives were also called to the scene,
where they quickly determined the source of the small explosions.

According to College of the Canyons officials, a witness reported to
the Campus Safety Office that he saw one of the devices being thrown
from a late model maroon sedan with two, young male occupants.  The
vehicle immediately fled the campus.

No one was injured, and no suspects were taken into custody,
but the whole incident disrupted traffic in the western Valencia
area for over an hour.
