2006 Cowboy Festival About To Kick-Off

The City of Santa Clarita is proud to present the 13th annual Cowboy Festival, April 26-30, 2006! Once again being held at Santa Clarita’s signature working movie ranch, Melody Ranch Motion Picture Studio, and locations throughout the Santa Clarita Valley, the 2006 Cowboy Festival will feature the best in western entertainers, gear, and food.

The City will kick off the Festival with the Cowboy Couture event on April 26 at the Canyon Theatre Guild Playhouse. Local celebrities will model high-end western fashions in a fun, choreographed show that will delight and entertain. On Thursday, April 27 the Art of the Chuckwagon will be held at Heritage Junction. Attendees can learn how to prepare an entire meal, chuck wagon style. On Friday, April 28, the Walk of Western Stars gala will be held at the Valencia Hyatt Grand Ballroom.

This annual tribute to western heroes of the silver screen will include a first-class meal and entertainment will be provided by R.W. Hampton and the Quebe Sisters Band. Don’t miss the sidewalk dedication earlier that afternoon on the streets of Old Town Newhall! On Saturday and Sunday, Melody Ranch will host the two-day Cowboy Festival, featuring live entertainment on three stages, including the California Music Stage, the Dodge House Stage and the Melody Ranch stage.

This year’s entertainers include some of the country’s best western entertainers. Crowd favorites Sourdough Slim, Sky Shivers, Waddie Mitchell, and Chris Issacs, will mesmerize audiences with their signature cowboy poetry. Singers Don Edwards, Lorraine Rawls, Stephanie Davis, and RW Hampton will fill guests ears with the sweet sounds of the west.

John Chandler is not only a cowboy crooner, but writes western novels as well! Brenn Hill’s songs have been called some of the best in the western genre and the young Quebe Sisters band will wow crowds will their intricate harmonies and skilled musicianship. The features performers are rounded out by the Sons of the San Joaquin, Syd Masters & the Swing Riders, Back at the Ranch, and the Lucky Stars.

Other performers include: Pat Richardson, Border Radio, Andy Nelson, Gary Robertson, Belinda Gail & Curly Musgrave, Katy Moffatt, Joe Harrington, Rod Taylor, Karen Quest, Karin Mari & the Pony Express, Justus & the Montanas, J.D. Seibert, Dave Bourne, Whit Haydn, and the Messick Family. Main Street Melody Ranch and Mercantile Row will feature unique western merchandise for sale, and the Gold Rush Food court will offer a variety of vendors offering great western cuisine to help you make it through the exciting day. Don’t miss the world’s best peach cobbler and cowboy coffee!

Other Festival events include a behind the scenes tour of Melody Ranch, an Afternoon with the Earps, An Evening of Music at Hart Mansion with the Sons of the San Joaquin, the Carousel Ranch Benefit Trail Ride, plus the Spaghetti Western Family Dinner Train, Women Artists of the West, the Legacy of Violence in Western Song and, at the Canyon Theatre Guild Playhouse, guests can enjoy live theatre with the popular western musical Oklahoma!

The City invites everyone to come out and enjoy the Cowboy Festival. Fun for the whole family, tickets for Melody Ranch are just $15 for adults and $10 for children. “Our City has such a rich western history,” commented City Manager Ken Pulskamp. “Other similar events around the country can’t hold a candle to our Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival.
