Local junior high students take top honors in the fourth annual Valley Industrial Association competition.
[view:node_ad=5]The Valley Industrial Association announced the Sierra Vista Junior High school team as the winners of the VIA Students to Achieve Results competition.
The VIA STAR is a product development contest designed to partner local students with Santa Clarita Valley businesses.
The Sierra Vista team partnered with the City of Santa Clarita Tourism Bureau and developed a plan to enhance city-sponsored event revenue.
Teams consisted of between three and five students, with each team paired with a teacher, coach and a participating business partner. Students from elementary, junior and senior high schools throughout the Santa Clarita Valley were eligible to participate.
Over a two month period the teams were asked to research, brainstorm, and design a new product or service for their host business. They then drafted a business plan to build and market the product, and presented their completed project to the host company as well as a panel of judges.
