For several years, the SCV Education Foundation has awarded scholarships to two graduating seniors at each Wm S. Hart District high school. In 2009, the scholarship program was named after James Backer, the founder of the SCV Education Foundation. The criterion was changed to award scholarships to graduating seniors who aspire to go into the educational field.

The 2010 awards went to future educators Ruby Lawler, Canyon High School – $5000; Erin Wallerstein, Canyon High School – $3000; Sara Sanders, West Ranch High School – $1500; Melissa Kaufer, Hart High School – $1500; Rhonna Horney, Golden Valley High School – $1000; Hannah Belanger, Saugus High School – $1000.

These outstanding students were chosen for their dedication, passion and service to school, the community and their future aspirations.
