The SCV Senior Center’s second annual Touch-A-Truck event came to Central Park Saturday and brought dozens of vehicles from the LA County Fire Department, Sheriff’s Department and more.

Touch-A-Truck took place from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and tickets to the event were $5 dollars, with dads accompanied by their children entering free for Father’s Day weekend.  

“People are just pouring into the park and we are so happy,” Marsha McLean, Chair of the event and Mayor Pro Tem of the City of Santa Clarita, said. “We have military vehicles, we have the full complement of the fire department, the highway patrol, the sheriff’s department and emergency vehicles. People can come and they can learn all about the vehicles and have a wonderful day.”

All proceeds from Touch-A-Truck are set to go to the SCV Senior Center, McLean said.

The trucks were lined up near the basketball courts in Central Park and employees of the LA County Fire Department, LA County Sheriff’s Department, California Highway Patrol, Forestry Service and more were available to speak to attendees about the specific job of each vehicle and help attendees see the interiors.

The event had other attractions alongside the trucks, including an array of boutiques, magic shows put on by the International Brotherhood Of Magicians, face tattoos, food trucks and raffles.

A dump truck at the event was filled with beach balls, which were set to be dumped out at 12:30 p.m. for the kids to grab and take home with them.

McLean said the Touch-A-Truck event is a very popular attraction for families and children.

“The kids love all the vehicles and they love to be able to climb on them and honk the horns,” McLean said. “Dads are free, grandads as well, and its just $5 a person because we wanted to keep it really family friendly.”

The KHTS antique 1948 Mack Fire Truck was also on scene, with its bell ringing away throughout the day.

McLean said that the funds raised at Touch-A-Truck will be used to support the programs put on by the SCV Senior Center and help the seniors of Santa Clarita.
