California Highway Patrol reports drunk driving arrests.
The California Highway Patrol arrested 31 people for driving under the influence over the Christmas holiday in the Newhall area.
Officer John Lutz said the majority of people were taken into custody Friday through Sunday.
During the 2006 Christmas enforcement period statewide, 28 people were killed and 1,351 arrested for DUI and over the New Year enforcement period, 38 were killed and 1,481 arrested for DUI. Local statistics were not available.
Lutz said that officers will once again be out in force on the highways this coming weekend to ensure a safe New Year's weekend for California drivers.
